Red Whiskered Bulbul

A bulbul couple decided to raise it's babies in our home. In the first week of April the bulbul couple built a nest in our utility area, on the clothesline pipe. We tied a foot wide basket under it as a safety catch. Soon after the nest was ready, eggs were laid and one of the bulbuls would remain in the nest most of the day, keeping the eggs warm.  The eggs hatched in the second week, we got one look at the chicks on the 14th. The couple was busy, both taking turns to guard the babies and fetching food. We could hear the feeble chirps of the babies crying for food, they were hungry through out the day.

These pictures were shot on 20th morning..

A few minutes after shooting these pictures I saw the chicks perched on the basket rim. They were ready to leave the nest and face the world outside. Within the next hour both chicks left the nest.. all the best to the little ones!

Yellow stripey sans stinger

Couple of weeks ago, while watering plants on our apartment roof I happened to notice fly like insects buzzing around. I hadn't seen the insects clearly, assumed they were some kind of flies. There wasn't any decaying matter on our roof. So, why these insects?

A few days later when I moved one of the buckets, I happened to notice a colony of insects. Oh those buzzing insects weren't flies. These are bees, the smaller type without sting. I left them alone, didn't even take a photo. A week later I noticed the exposed honeycomb with just a fraction of the colony. I guess the bees migrated to another location to build a new honeycomb. Here's a short video of the stingless bee.

Zigzag twigs of bird eye chili plant

Here's a collage of a Jeerige Menasina Gida ~ bird eye chilli plant and twigs. This plant is approximately two years old. Since it is planted in a small planter there's not much growth, it's about 18" high. Once a chilies are harvested from a branch, the branch starts drying out. I happened to notice the twigs zig-zag formation which is quite interesting.
